Today was not a normal day for an environmental adviser in the National Trust. It all started a few weeks ago when we were sat in the tea room at Penrhyn Castle thinking of what to do with the upcoming Xmas. Talks of energy efficiency, water management and biomass boilers (all of which are going in to Penrhyn next year) we (Ken, Paul and myself) got onto the subject of PR and comm’s and in the immortal words of Keith Jones ‘i had an idea’. This idea was to project one of tallest artificial Xmas trees in the UK on to the main castle keep (128ft tall) at Penrhyn Castle or the office as i call it. What has this to do with my job… well, its Xmas. It all came to pass and thanks to our friends at Panasonic for loaning us a mother of a laser projector, which interestingly uses less energy than the castle outside lights (another story and later) Many a discussion on Xmas tree design (colour, tone, branches, angles and such like… living on the edge), positioning, extension cables, weather watching, moon phasing, A55 watching, carrying heavy equipment oh and chocolates. ITV Wales News and the regional press were over tonight filming the softer side of a Neo Norman Castle.
I have now learnt my lesson and will keep mouth shut… ish. But the finished article was pleasing to the eye and hopefully conveys Xmas and the NT. PS we hope you have a good holiday!
Haia Keith?
