The Welsh Government Environment and Sustainability committee did an all ‘dayer’ on community energy. Lots of good friends round the table

Today four of the communities in ‘Cyd Ynni’ the new consortium in N Wales gave evidence to the National Assembly Environment and Sustainability committee on the current state and also what the future holds for community energy. The question from the Welsh Government was nice and simple! What can be done to make the process easier? This included what needs changing, what needs highlighting and ultimately who’s arse needs kicking? Antur Waunfawr gave evidence via a Community Energy Wales video. Ynni Padarn Peris, Ynni Anafon, Ynni Ogwen and myself gave evidence via a video conference line. (ps for those of you not blessed with British language – Ynni is Energy) It was an open honest and constructive session. The final question from the chair Alun Fred Jones was simple. What one thing if it was in your gift would you change to make life easier in the confusing world of community energy? Each of us had a different ‘one thing’ and ranged from simplicity or simplification of statutory processes, setting up a Welsh mutual energy company and finally ensuring that commercial developers always have to give community benefit in their projects.
