The more you look the more you see. Powis Castle. Perfect wild garden. Not what you think!

Autumn has arrived at Powis Castle! …and without Photoshop to help it!

I’ve spent most of the day recording a radio program with Iolo Williams and the team at Powis castle for the BBC. The program is exploring various facets of wild gardening for nature. So why chose one of the best gardens in the UK for wild and nature gardening program. Lets just say that such an old garden as Powis has nature at its core and works with nature rather than trying to fight against. For me the day was a revelation because of the company i was with. They showed me a side to the garden which was completely new to me. Looking beyond the obvious with experts showed that there is such depth to the place.  We had Kelvin from the British Trust for Ornithology, Bethan the Botanist/ Naturalist, Awen the expert gardener and plants person and Iolo William the Naturalist.  The simple fact was that Powis Castle today was on fire in terms of Nature and the Garden. You could not move for birds, butterflies, flowering plants, shrubs, moss, lichens, trees, squirrels and the list went on and on. I could also hear the tell-tale sound of deer in the park which were mid rut (the bellowing sounds of the stags sounds like someone sawing a wheelie bin in half with a very rough saw). I was there to cover the environmental side of the garden what with its water efficiency, PV, recycling, composting, heat pumps and such like. But this was completely secondary to what nature was doing today. All the experts agreed that the garden is something special (the coffee was quite good as well!)
