Dating back to the 1460’s Egryn Abbey as its called on the map is a stunning farm on the Merionethshire coast. The site has been occupied for over 4000 years from early bronze age to us in the last 10 years. The stunning holiday cottage in the old house is currently undergoing a small but significant evaluation. Alex Turrell is leading on the evaluation of App’ controlled energy systems and their practical application for our holiday cottages. The press is full of this that an the other control systems… this was our first foray in Wales. We are working with a company in S Wales and have been adapting and trialling various controllers to see if they make site management easier but also and more importantly lead to and overall reduction in energy use.
The challenge for us is to switch the heating system ‘off, on or stand-by’ when the cottage is empty for a week. We would like to pre heat the cottage before the guests arrive. Make sure there is fuel in the tank, monitor usage, switch lights off after the guest has left. Oh and if anyone ‘borrows’ the fuel of an evening without asking or we get a leak the system is capable of sending a text. The challenge with these sites is their remote location and not being able to ask people to pop over to switch the heating on or off, check the fuel tank and so on. Lets see if our new App’ and C21 technology in a C15 house is the answer. Alex has already experienced the problems with bespoke sites… bespoke solutions, which is what we did not want if we want to repeat the work in other places
