Countryfile visit Aberdulais and switch on our waterwheel

Spent a fantastic day down at Aberdulais yesterday with the property team as the first part of the hydropower refurbishment – the waterwheel – was officially switched on by Countryfile presenter Shauna Lowry.

The Countryfile team spent the day at Aberdulais Tinworks and Waterfall talking to property staff and visitors about the history and archaeology of the site, as well as undertaking “the big switch on”.

The Dulais river has been powering progress at the site since the 16th Century – from copper to tin and now finally electricity which not only powers the visitor centre and tea rooms via the waterwheel, but ensures that funding is used for conservation work rather than paying the energy bills.

After an initial will she wont she moment (we forgot to flick the switch on the hydraulic powerpack – whoops), which led to Paul having a slightly stressed moment, the 16 tonne wheel spun into life.

Tune into Countryfile on the 15th June where you will see Claudine and Paul, as well as possibly seeing a short bald bearded bloke talking about this gem of a property.
