Yesterday I took my work home with me again. Under the Governments OLEV funded scheme I am now the grateful recipient of a free electric Vehicle charge point. Quite a few of my National Trust colleagues have also taken the step and had one of the free chargers (worth quite a bit) installed at home. The National Trust is now in serious negotiation on the financial side of EV’s having moved from the ‘should we’ into ‘how’ can we. The Nissan Leaf at National Trust Penrhyn Castle will be coming over next week to see if it likes my electricity (I also have a 4kw PV system on the same circuit)
There are some terms and conditions for the charger including having your system monitored by DECC via a mobile phone / GSM link. Not all properties are suitable but if we are serious about this shift to EV’s then we need infrastructure for charging and at scale. The National Trust in Wales thanks to CarbonZeroWorld are also installing another 10 in the coming weeks to add to the 26 we already have. A volunteer will also be uploading the charge points into the various on-line electric vehicle charging point maps of the UK…we need to spread the word!
