All of these presents and it’s not even Christmas – busy times at National Trust Plas Newydd heat pump project

It’s been a busy week over at the National Trust Plas Newydd heat pump project. Monday saw the completed draft version of our CGI fly through of the Plas Newydd fit for the future project. We have been working with Vizworx to produce a real time computer fly through of the heat pump system showing how we will be harvesting heat from the Menai Strait, then transferring this via heat pumps to where it will be needed in the mansion. More to come on this later.

Tuesday saw a crane lifting plinth arrive via GHJones our civil engineering contractor. This plinth provides the lifting base for the 40 ton crane which will be (very carefully) lifting our pump house building down onto the marine walkway.

Tuesday also saw the installation of conservation grade secondary glazing within office and residential areas of Plas Newydd. We have been working with Storm Windows at several of our properties and this installation will assist in further reducing the heat losses at the property.

Wednesday arrived with things to unwrap (excellent) in the shape of three hot water buffer stores, together with four 75kw heat pumps.

Wednesday afternoon and I was beside myself. I had the chance to take a proper look at the watertight pumphouse building which had also arrived, complete with the ever so slightly fabulous watertight door as used by submarines. That was me for the rest of the day – door opens, door closes, door opens, door closes! It could only have been better if it played the noise that the starship Enterprise doors make when they open ( yes I need to get out more).

Finally this morning saw a digger begin preparation work for receiving the pumphouse onto the marine walkway.

All in all a good week!

  1. Fab! How much heat are you expecting the pump to produce?

  2. Paul Southall says:

Hi, The system is 300kw in total. This is made up of 4no. 75kw heat pump units allowing the operation of 1 alone, upto all 4 if required. In this way we ensure efficient conservation grade heating supply to the mansion. Thanks for your comment
