The new boys are in for an energy make over. Dyffryn Garden and Tredegar House

we are definitely in Wales! but were to start with this elegant but oh so massive mansion. We start with getting to know whats going on, then move on to management, efficiency and then start bolting stuff on and in…simples!

We are definitely in Wales! But were to start with this elegant but oh so massive mansion. We start with getting to know whats going on, then move on to management, efficiency and then start bolting stuff on and in…simples!

Today and it was a 4:45 rude awakening and the train down to Cardiff to start on something exciting. Around 18 months ago the National Trust became the proud guardians of two stunning properties in South East Wales. Tredegar House and Dyffryn Gardens. We have now had time to get to know our new charges, which have been leased to the National Trust for the next 50 years. Well its time we made the properties ‘fit for the future’ and to see what everything we have learnt in the last few years looks like on two very energy hungry properties. The opportunities abound but these must be tempered with realism which will be grounded in careful understanding, design, consultation and the a measured approach. Its way to easy showering these two new mansions with a tsunami of eco-bling in the name of sustainability and then lose what we actually care for in these special places. Yes there will be renewable heating, some PV and so on. But to start with it’s a case of manage what we have better and understand what we need. Hope you can follow as we ‘develop’ and do. Paul is developing water management plans for the sites (from taps to flood risk) and i am developing the plan of the plan. Few more 4:45’s a.m. me thinks!

Dyffryn-House

…and yes this is one of our work areas. Mountains and Mansions. Won’t say anymore! Hope you follow as we learn about our new charges!
