bench testing, prototype development…simplification and adaptability seems to be the mantra

The weather has been great and the technology has been superb. Mr Southall has been looking under the bonnet at Tredegar and i have been swaning around the country looking at stuff. Air Batteries, Torrefaction and Windfences… its been a good few days. Yesterday morning I was on the outskirts of Swindon meeting the developers of the wind fence. Spinetic Energy who are developing the wind fence are a new company but with simple and quite big plans. The idea is to develop small vertical axis wind turbines and mount a series of them on a 5m frame. A number of the frames can be mounted along boundaries and unobtrusively in the countryside. (5, 10, 50, 100kw?) I really like the idea and I did challenge them on the physics and engineering (my fag packet expertise…and somebody else told me to ask them!) The responses made sense and the economics in principle look very very appealing. They have prototypes which have been out in the countryside (one has been on the roof of a car at 90mph around Castle Combe race source!). They are looking at two to three years to get into production. With all the politics and opinion around tall wind a linear series of small wind systems up to 5m above the ground does have an appeal in the right place and I can see a niche. Much more to come from this emerging technology

Whats not to like about a 3D printer. They develop the componets and prototypes on CAD and then a few minutes later they can test them for real.
