TGV lads running two butt fusers machines to halve the time

This morning and back at Hafod y llan on Snowdon to catch up on some paper work with John. Whilst there I had a chat with the TGV lads building the second hydro on the farm. The 15kw Gorsen hydro is now full steam ahead. The farm seems to be drowning in a sea of pipes of all shapes and sizes. The TGV team were electro-fusing or to be more accurate butt welding the 180mm pipes into 100m strings to be pulled up the mountain. The process involves feeding the 6m length pipes into a device which cuts, cleans and prepares a new face on the pipe which is then heated and joined to the end of the previous pipes. This is then pulled through ready to take on the next pipe. They think it will take a couple of days to do all of the pipes. I went up to the Gorsen weir site (again) and the helicopter lifted gear is all there ready for a fairly straightforward build.
