Interesting day on the mountain. The Eryri team were out with one of the helicopter contractors we use. Today 50 tones of materials winged their way up the mountain. 6 bags for the Gorsen 15kw hydro and 50 bags of sub base, fencing materials and footpath mesh for the Hafod y Llan 640kw hydro. The materials for Hafod y Llan will initially be used to construct a coffer dam to divert the river for the construction of the weir. The materials will then be used for the concrete mix for the weir and finally as protective ballast around the 660mm pipe

Why a helicopter? the amount of damage we would have had to deal with moving so much material up the mountain would have been expensive / unsightly and environmentally damaging (eg silt run off into the river). It does feel counter intuitive using a helicopter but the speed and accuracy were self-evident. (1 tonne moved up almost a 1000 ft every 3 or so minutes)heli-lift-4. I might put in for one of these! The Helicopter then went off to move another 130 bags of stone for footpath maintenance across the valley at Llyn Du farm

  2. I can’t wait to see our pipe going up the mountain as well. Good to see such quick progress on the scheme.
