Craflwyn hydro – photo-montage decions making

Possible turbine building configuration Slate or corrugated roof ? (recycled zinc, steel or aluminium?)

Possible turbine building configuration Slate or corrugated roof ? (recycled zinc, steel or aluminum?)

It’s now getting serious on 100kw Craflwyn hydro. The abstraction license is in place and it’s now a question of ‘how’ to build and ‘what’ will it look like. I am a strong believer in the use of the photo-montage. All to often these are used to ‘get away’ with a development. Perspective, deflection, season, materials, distance all influence the overall view of the potential development. We have been using this tool to make internal decisions before getting anywhere near the planning process. External look, orientation, mitigation and so on. We have just commissioned this series of photo-montages to decide on roof materials, external cladding. Corrugated roof or Blaenau slate? Jury is still out as we need to tweak the colors. The larch cladding is not grey enough (it oxidises from orange to grey in a about 24 months) The roofing slate also needs more of a blue grey tint to reflect its area (probably Cwt y Bugail quarry in Blaenau) For a few hundred pounds you can make an informed decisions on the final look and how the building sits in its landscape (we will be looking at the finished product for the next 60 to 100 years and so need to get it right)

the building sitting n its landscape. we need to get it right. we will be living with it for a long time

The building sitting in its landscape. we need to get it right. we will be living with it for a long time. we have also been honest and used a winter scene (no leaves to hide the building!) the building probably needs to sit another 750mm lower in the landscape as we are ‘digging it in’. The front stone wall will also be another 400mm higher. DETAILING!
