What with the conference and then easter break its been a bit a bit slow updating the blog. here is a rapid update on the highlights
The Hafod y Llan hydro (650kw) almost there with the abstraction licence (then on to the planning permission) work programme being bottomed out by John the project manager. Grid reserving, construction methodology and some additional photo montagning also required.
Anafon Community Hydro (500kw) – we have a week left to finalise the next application for the Cooperative Community Energy challenge. Also preparing the tender for the feasibility stage and then we hope on to a ‘community energy application’ for some funding
Consultants are in the process of evaluating a 50kw hydro in the Brecon beacons, a pre app on the abstraction levels has been gained on the Craflwyn 100kw hydro and it looks like a strong hydro. Also looking at a new low-cost way of developing hydros…
Two small hydros on the go – Gorsen 15kw. Re-looking at the weir screen and we are also working on finding an MSc student to work on a 5kw hydro for the Hafod y Llan farm
Have now received planning permission for the a 10kw PV system for Mathry in S Wales. 1kw system hopefully going in at Tan yr Ardd crofter’s cottage on Llyn and 4kw going in now at the Bwlch buildings oh and the Craflwyn campsite system is also going in as we speak (PV still on the agenda with us!). Tom Eagle the volunteer working with us is also working on a PV generator mounted on a trailer if we can find the funding (for going around the shows such as the Royal Welsh)
Plas Newydd Marine Source heat pump. Our engineer is currently drafting the schematic of the 360kw system and we are looking at a gap analysis. I am working with some of the statutory bodies to revisit the design of the system before going for the EIA
Paul is in the final stages of agreeing with a contractor to replace the the bearings on the Aberdulais Water wheel and generator (at 16t it’s going to be slow!)
Tom Eagle after some training with Paul is launching on a mammoth re-audit and detailed energy assessment of our 55 holiday cottages across Wales to dive efficiency improvements.
Paul is working on our annual environmental review report, ISO14001, Green Dragon level 5, export metering,
Oh and there are quite a few RHi applications, low cost data loggers to evaluate, instantaneous water heater trails, ceramic stove, large hydro, lots of strategy, planning, scoping, contracts, consultations…
it’s a tad busy but still FUN –
