(bottom) Dinefwr electric vehicle charging point and the source of its electricity in the day. 50kw field mounted PV (top image)
The great roll-out of Electric vehicle charge points has started. Powis Castle now completed and this image was kind sent by Stephen from Dinefwr. We have gone for the more traditional 16amp recharge and the larger and quicker 32amp where we can. Hence the two plugs. (It depends what recharging lead the cars have with them). We did look at rapid chargers (sub 20 min charging) but the cost was eye-watering (at the moment!) and the fact not that many cars in the country able to take that level of recharge …at the moment!. At most of the large mansion sites with the EV chargers we also have 50kw PV systems often on the same line and so you could say this is sustainable energy for sustainable transport (during the day!). The electric vehicles for our trial should be arriving early January.

A nice pair of photos Keith!
We’ve also started installing these car charging points too – a much cheaper alternative than fast charge and likely to be more effective at wide-scale introduction of electric cars. We look forward to your analysis of the vehicle performance in the coming months.
